Because archetype of Satan was not invented by La Vey - it's a complex archetype of darkness, in wich lots of ancient pagan traditions and interpretations are mixed. It existed before christianity of judaism, and maybe even before the ancient Egypt civilisation. It was popularized by christianity in a strong way, but the roots are much more ancient.
Also, if you don't like all this 'mix' theme about Pagan traditions, I can say that it's very natural to paganism - to borrow some gods or archetypes from other pagan traditions. From Hellenic to Roman, from celtic to Germanic. Pagan traditions of lots of Aryan cultures have the same roots anyway.
Once again, archetype of Satan includes many ancient Pagan beliefs (horned gods like Pan, cruel & evil but also creative creatures like Wotan and Loki, gods with urge for power & knowledge like Lucifer and Prometheus), and remains a cultural ancestry of Europe.

Dark side of Paganism is more accurate term. There is no 'good' or 'evil' in Paganism naturally - it's a complex tradition, where both darkness and light exist together and circle together. Lots of Black Metal, Pagan Black Metal, NSBM bands represent this in their music. But also the essential part in BM is darkness, destruction, hatred - 'dark' side of life and nature. I can say that such interpritation of Satanism is much more close to Pagan beliefs than anything else.
It's well represented by some bands from NSBM underground - they do accept our European Pagan traditions, and also they don't reject Satanism (saying 'satanism' we're not talking about stupid so called 'religious satanism' popular trend nowdays).

As for Graveland - their early materials were about necromancy, celtic dark mysticism, racial pride, pagan wars. Very dark side of Paganism I have to notice.

Firstly, natural German (and especially Nazi) understanding of 'Gott' is far more different then your stubborn christian-like 'good-god' vs 'bad-devil' reality.
Surely Nazis used such things in their propaganda. But every thinking person understands that human masses are very primitive and stubborn - they need a good god to believe, and someone 'bad' to blame him for all their fails. Mr. Goebbels and the whole Reich's propaganda ministry understood this quite good - that's natural when you're working with a huge masses of people.
